THE ELM WORD LIST 2000


This new word list, SOWPODS 2000, which is a combination of both the OSW4 and the OTCWL1 is available for sale in all MPH Bookstores in the country. Now you finally can get your hands on the book that will settle all disputes and consists of all acceptable words in International Scrabble play. Bound in soft cover, 322 A5 pages at 6 point font, up to 9 letters, easy to read with ample space between columns. Separate lists of the 2, 3 and 4 letter words are also included at the back.

GOODRICH'S SCRABBLE GALA

A brand new tournament in the offing by Thomas Tan's Goodrich's Scrabble Gala. The competition will be the first tournament to follow the newly minted MSA Tournament Rules which will be pasted up at the tournament and later uploaded onto this website for your reference. This tournament will be rated. Register soon to enjoy the "early bird" special. There will be spot prizes too!

Inaugural Causeway Scrabble Challenge

The inaugural "Causeway Scrabble Challenge" which will be held on 21 and 22 Dec 2002 at Riviera Bay Resort, Malacca. The criteria for qualification is based on the ratings of each country and the player has to play at least ONE rated tournaments per year. The top 10 playerS who are members of the Malaysian Scrabble Club and the top 10 players who are members of the Singapore Scrabble Association from the ratings list will be invited to play in "Causeway Scrabble Challenge" and if in the event that any of the Top 10 players is unable to make it, the next player on the ratings list will be invited. The format for the tournament is 2 x round robins where players from each country will play against each other twice. I am also pleased to announce that there will also be 2 Challenge trophies, Winner and Runner-up, so that all 10 players from each team will have their names engraved on either trophy. The player who finish highest from each country will get to keep the respective Challenge trophy for 1 year and this tournament will be held annually at the end of each calendar year.

The De La Salle Scrabble Tournament

Date : 20th & 21st December 2002 (Friday & Saturday)

Venue : De La Salle Institute, Jalan Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur 

Closing Date 10-12-2002

Entry Fee : Adults RM 50/-  School Children RM 30/-

NOTE : Open only to players outside of the Top 10 Malaysian Ranking

The competition will be played over 12 games, 8 without repeat (not meeting the same player more than once) and 4 King of the Hill all the way (pairings according to computer rankings). It is open only to players outside the top-ten in the national rankings. Participants are requested to bring along their own scrabble boards and clocks. The first round will start at 2 p.m. on Friday at the De La Salle Institute, Jalan Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur (next to St John's Institution). Prizes include the challenge trophy donated by Bro Andrew, and RM300, RM150 & RM100 to the top three finishers. The highest placed school-going participant stands to win $100 and a trophy.

The Malaysian Open Scrabble Championship
We have confirmed the venue at The Corus Hotel(formerly known as Ming Court).
It's on Jalan Ampang.

The dates are November 2-3.

Entry Fee is RM50 for members,RM60 for non-members.There is a RM10 surcharge 
for late entrants.


First prize is RM1000 and a beautiful challenge trophy.

Second prize   RM500
Third  prize   RM300
Fourth prize   RM200
Fifth  prize   RM100

Closing date is the 25th of October.

The 2 representatives for Malaysia will be the top two rated persons on the Malaysian Ranking with special emphasis that the rating continues from the existing Malaysian rating. The minimum games for qualification is 60 games played over a minimum period of 12 months, the confirmed cut off dates are from 21st July 2002 to 31st July 2003.
