Maxwell's got
a problem, as anyone can see
His reading comprehension isn't all that it should be
His spelling is substandard, his math is far behind
And it doesn't help his grades that Max is honest and
he's kind Maxwell's
got a problem, as everybody knows
His grasp of probability is reaching a new low
His fractions are a washout, his grammar is a bust
It's too bad he's not graded as a kid who you can trust
CHORUS
Everybody says they love to have a friend like Max
And they're sorry that he has a low capacity for facts
He'll just have to study harder, they say that's for the
best
But the thing that Max is good at isn't scored on any
test
Thirty-three kids are enrolled in every classroom, says
the Board
With twenty-seven textbooks, 'cause that's all they could
afford
Maybe that's enough as long as five kids stay away
And it doesn't help that Max arrives at school on time
each day
His teacher isn't happy that Maxwell isn't good
At raising her performance to the level that he should
But the principal is satisfied that Maxwell is okay
The worse his school appears to do, the more the feds
will pay
CHORUS
Maxwell's got a problem, and nobody knows why
He can't seem to recall the functionality of pi
He's seen a slew of experts, confounding every one
They say his case is hopeless, but he's great at having
fun
Maxwell's got a problem, as everyone can tell
The funny thing is, Max believes he's doing pretty well
We'd better be more careful, or things will get too loose
And the students that we're used to will be hard to
reproduce
CHORUS
His mother isn't worried, what is she thinking of?
Maybe she's confused by his facility for love
And now we've got a problem, the system's grown too lax
'Cause everyone around him wants to be the same as Max
Yeah, everyone around him wants to be a kid like Max
