A very old, very stable working breed of Italy, the Neapolitan Mastiff is one of two breeds ( the other is the Cane Corso) that stems directly from the giant Molossus, war - dog of ancient Rome, which was not only used in battle against the enemy, but also spent time with lions and gladiators in the great amphitheater in Rome - the " Colosseum".
Neapolitan Mastiff's have a short coat, no special grooming needed. They have alot of eye contact and very attentive to their master's / owner's as well as their surroundings. Are eager to please, protective, highly intelligent, very discriminating and capable guardians. The Neapolitan Mastiff is however not for everyone.
We have become aware of a group of breeders who breed the Neapolitan Mastiff 35% to 50% larger than the Italian Standard calls for. We are not opposed to big dogs but we do feel that there is a problem when a breed is bred to far and exceeds the maximum weight for that particular breed. As we are sure that most people are aware of the potential health problems that follow excessive size. Not all Neapolitan Mastiff's look the same, some have excessive wrinkles, while others only a slight trace of wrinkles, this also goes for head type as well. But no matter how they look they are Neapolitan Mastiff's. The same goes for every aspect of this great and majestic breed.
We will, in everything we do,be aware that we are the caretakers of the future of our breed. Each action, decision we make, can and will affect the Neapolitan Mastiff as a breed, not only today but for all the years to come. We areaware that poor breeding decisions have caused the downfall of some popular breeds, some bought to the point of near extinction. As the caretakers of our breed, we will protect not only the dogs that are living today, but those that are not yet born. It is our duty to see that Neapolitan Mastiff's will go on in future years to be all that the breed was intended for.
