Ancient Landmarks #319 - Lodge Information

August 20, 2000

Greetings from the East:  --  WM Jim Hanson (Sr.) August 2000
Greetings Brethren,

The Lodge extends it's deepest and heartfelt sympathies to the families of Paul E Young and Harold D. Walker.

We are having an excitiing year !  The line officers are very supportive of the Lodge and my term this year.  They have done an outstanding job and I appreciate it very much !

We are taking in new members.  It is with great pleasure that I announce two new Master Masons.  Jarrod D. Kohn, raised April 17,  2000 and James A. Hanson Jr., our newest Master Mason, raised July 22, 2000.

We have three (3) Entered Apprentices awaiting Fellow Craft Degrees in September along with a petition for the September Stated Meeting.

Don't miss our Annual Picnic, the third to be held at PM Dave Johnson's home, Saturday September 9 at 11:30 am.  A good time is to be had by all and there is always plenty of food !  Check out the picnic details included in this newsletter.

As the summer is coming to an end, so is my term as Master.  It has been a real honor and pleasure for me. I hope I have been able to make significant contributions to the Lodge and Fraternity that I love.

We have presented fifty-year awards of gold.  We anticipate giving 9 more before the end of the year.  These brothers and other fifty-year members are what have kept our wonderful fraternity going for all these years.  We sincerely congratulate them on their outstanding  achievements and committments to our fraternity.

Please note the upcoming events.  We have not been able to set definate dates for some of these.  Stated meetings, Degrees, and Practices are on Mondays with exception of a possible Saturday Degree.

If you have an e-mail address and would like to receive lodge updates via email, please contact Dave Geist, PM, Secretary at 317 241-2220 or geistdr@hotmail.com.  Check out our wesite at http://sites.netscape.net/ancientlandmarks .

I hope everyone had a restful summer and look forward to seeing you in September.

Respectfully and Fraternally yours,
/s Jim Hanson, W.M

Tidings from the West:  --  SW Hal Grigdesby
It seems hard to believe how quickly the summer has passed.  Before we'll know it, it'll actually be cold again outside.  Uggh !

In a couple of months, it will be time to cast ballots for key Lodge Offices with installation planned for early this December.  If you have a desire to serve, please let Jimmy, Royce or I know.  I am beginning to think about our calendar of activities for next year too.  {Hey, has anybody out there ever been to the Duckpin Bowl at Fountain Square?...  what a hoot ! )

I have been so pleased with the enthusiasm and committent of the craft in preparing fro our recent degrees.  So, if you'd like to have even small part in our upcoming work, please let us know and we promise to make you feel at home.

In  closing, let me salute Dave Geist, our superb Secretary.  Here's a snip I borrowed from Brother Stewart Pollard in his book, 'Tied to Masonic Apron Strings":

The Secretary stood at the pearly gate, his face was worn and old;
He merely asked the man at the gate for admission to the fold.

"What did you do down there?", St Peter asked,  "to gain admission here?"
"Oh, I used to be the Lodge Secretary down there for many a year."

The pearly gate swung open shart as St Peter tapped the bell.j
"Com in, Old Top, and take your harp; You have had enough of hell !"

Fraternally,
/s  Hal Grigdesby S.W.

Greetings from the South:  --  JW Royce Baugh (PM # )
Upon my travels about Indianapolis, I came across a sign outside an East Side Lodge.  It says "Have you attended your Lodge lately?"   To me, this means that Ancient Landmarks Lodge is not alone in not bringing members to it's meetings.  Sure, I would like to have more members become active in the Lodge, but we live in changing times.  My point is that our Lodge may change and with an active membership we will  be better able to keep what is best for our Lodge.

We have some degree work coming up, so try to join with us in making these new members welcome !

Royce Baugh, PM JW
