Apartment Fire
Lincoln Manner Apartments - August 14, 2000
Fire units were dispatched to the Lincoln Manner Apartments located at 523 Front St. at 11:31 pm. On arrival, crews found fire blowing out of the rear sliding patio doors on a second story apartment. This is all that was left of the living room of apartment 207.
Here are the sliding patio doors where the fire vented itself. Flames were extending up to the balcony of the third floor apartment above.
This was a one bedroom apartment with a small dinning area and kitchen. When fire crews made entry, the entire apartment was engulfed in flames. Here is a picture of what was left of the kitchen.
Outside view of the sliding patio doors where the fire vented itself, engulfing the patio of the apartment above. The occupant of the apartment had gone to bed with a cigarette burning in an ashtray setting on a chair. He awoke to find the chair smoldering and tried to move the chair towards the patio doors. When the chair burst into flame, he exited the apartment. The self-closer on the apartment door kept the fire contained to this single apartment. There was water damage to the apartment below and smoke damage to most of the other units in this section of the building. Three occupants of other apartments had to relocate for the night. The occupant of the apartment directly above the fire worked nights and was not home.
Damages exceeded $70,000

There were no injuries to residents or firefighters. Mutual aid was requested of the Brook Park and Middleburg Hts. Fire Departments.
