Week of November 18th

We had an exciting 28 week celebration to say the least. We were surprised to have
many doctors and nurses participate with us in many kind ways. I was looking forward
to getting outside for the first time since I was admitted. So since I was having a good
day then our outside jaunt was not delayed. At 10:00am I was wheeled outside my
room and was met up with the other quad mom who is in Phoenix from New Jersey to
have her babies. She is 3 weeks ahead of me and doing great. The trip down to the
healing garden was wonderful and it certainly was nice to breathe in fresh air for a
change and to feel the warm Phoenix sun on my face. We came back up to my room
where a cake and a decorated bed awaited me. We were so surprised to get all this
attention. It was an emotional day for us reaching 28 weeks gestation since there were
plenty of times in the past where we never thought we were going to make it to the
next day. Cameron enjoyed all the excitement too and kept saying "babies" while
pointing at my belly. It was so cute.

We are so grateful for all the kind nurses and doctors who gave us their personal time
to celebrate with us. They continue to go above and beyond the call of duty to make
us feel comfortable and that we could go on another day no matter how hard it was
sometimes. My sister Tina was here during this day and how nice it was to have her
here from Glenns Falls to help us out. We are so fortunate to have such great family
and friends! We have received such nice cards and notes of encouragement from so
many people. Thank you to each and every one of you!!!
This board is in my room which Carl updates each morning with our gestation date, the
calender date and the nurse I have that day. Also on the bottom, Carl shows off his
artistic skills by drawing a new scene each week. This week, since we were
celebrating 28 weeks gestation, he drew in the scene of a place we have gone to in the
past for 4th of July Fireworks. It's of Ticonderoga, New York. It shows the park and fair
rides along with the water fall and river that goes through the town. Also if you look
really hard, it shows Carl and I walking along the path with 5 boys in front. Carl is so
talented!
Carl, Cameron and Myself with Kristen and Mike at the healing garden. They too are expecting quadruplets and traveled here from New Jersey.
The remaining days of the week were once again filled with ups and downs. My mom
arrived on Friday to join us through Thanksgiving. I was really looking forward to seeing
her. Saturday my contractions started up heavy again and I spent the day trying to
figure out ways to slow them down mentally along with trying to keep my cervix from
opening any more. I was now officially at 8 cm dilated and my magnesium was once
again heightened to control everything. I was now at 6 grams an hour. This high level
was something that they rarely do however my body seemed to be tolerating it so they
said they would try it. The doctors did say they would not go any higher than that. At
the start of the night shift on Saturday night, the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) had
been warned that I most likely will be delivering that night and to have everyone stay
close to their beepers. Doctors and nurses were also put on alert for the event that I
need to deliver later that night. I still didn't feel yet that it was "time". We road through
these crazy times before and we didn't deliver so I seriously thought that this was
going to be no different. I was given another blood transfusion Saturday night as a last
ditch effort to relax things as nothing seemed to be working. Around 9:00pm things
started to settle down and I simply took a sleeping pill to help me relax. I wish Carl
could have taken one himself since he usually gets no sleep on these uncertain
nights. I tell him to rest yet he continues to stay watch for me as I sleep and he stays
awake to speak to doctors about my hour-to-hour progress. He is amazing!!!!
