ABE, THE POOR MANS' POET
Finally some new ones!
A DIFFERENT CALLING
This year the "Memorial" has changed
It's different than those past
A different kind of war
From a different, "stone cast".
The battle is at Freedom's doorstep
With heroes of a different kind
Now, all of us are "Soldiers"
Against, the terrorists "sick" mind.
Civilians have always been
A part of every war
But, in this day and age
We must do, so much more.
If we expect to win this Battle
We must all join hands
In a strong, determined circle
With, Freedom lovers from all lands.
This world has changed forever
"The American Way"
There's so much more at stake
Than, the way we live and play.
Since 9-11 we're learning
The horrors of this world
Can even come to where
Freedoms Flag is, unfurled.
This day was meant to Honor
All, Military Heroes have endured
Now, we all could join their Ranks
If our resolve, is not assured.
So, let us all take a moment
To respect all those, "Fallen"
And vow, we're all up to the task
Of this, different "Calling".
BREAKING THE SILENCE WITHOUT A SOUND
I could sit and talk all night
And not say a single word
Or I'd have to repeat some
That you've already heard.
I could say some things
So, you might take heed
But, it wouldn't be the ones
That you really need.
But, I'd pour my heart out
Until "silence was golden"
And then I'd be right where I am
Wonderin' why, I'm holdin'.
But when I break the silence
Without making a sound
Then I'll know the right words
Have finally been found.
I might do it with a touch
Or with a look in my eye
A smile upon my face
As you walk slowly by.
To break the silence with no sound
Is something most can't do
But, I hope you hear the silence
Here, between me and you.
EVERYTHING BUT, THE BLAME
We met when we were younger
And played that lovin’ game
We vowed hearts to each other
And I gave her my name.
We had our ups and downs
Went through our ins and outs
We did some wrong things right
And were sure, within our doubts.
Then something changed between us
Our love, just wouldn’t stay the same
And when she walked out on me
She took everything but the blame.
We had the fancy car
And a nice house with a pool
Those little ones between us
With the oldest starting school.
There was money in the bank
And a paid up credit card
Dreams of old age together
We worked and played real hard.
Then something changed between us
Our love, just wouldn’t stay the same
And when she walked out on me
She took everything but the blame.
For some reason, we quit talking
Or touching, when we passed by
Stopped doing those crazy, foolish things
That, we always used to try.
The love light in her eyes
Turned to a shade of blue
Then, she looked into mine
And said, "I don’t love you.
That lovin’ thing between us
Turned to hurt and pain
Then, she left, took everything
Everything, but the blame.
When something changed between us
Our love, just wouldn’t stay the same
And when she walked out on me
She took everything but the blame.
FAITH IN FAITH
I believe in prayers
Said in the dark of the night
I believe in prayers
Shouted in the broad daylight.
God brought back the faith
I’d lost for all that time
Now, He’s with me, here today
As he walkd]s by my side.
Without prayer you can’t survive
Put your faith in faith
You got to have faith in faith
Hang in, don’t compromise
When the world turns you away
Have faith in faith.
I believe what is written
Here in the book of love
Red letter words
Given from above.
If I lost my faith
My chances would be slim
He said all that you believe
Would someday be with him.
Without prayer you can’t survive
Put your faith in faith
You got to have faith in faith
Hang in, don’t compromise
When the world turns you away
Have faith in faith.
God’s as quiet as the breeze
That whispers through the trees
Sometimes it’s the oceans roar
The wild surf crashing on the shore.
Without prayer you can’t survive
Put your faith in faith
You got to have faith in faith
Hang in, don’t compromise
When the world turns you away
Have faith in faith.
JULY THE FOURTH, TWO THOUSAND TWO
I wonder what those folks would think
(Those, who wrote our Freedom’s Declaration)
Would they believe, those happenings
That have, forever changed our Nation.
Would they believe, some terrorists
Are, from our Country, homegrown
Spreading hate, death, and destruction
In the Homeland of their own.
Would they believe our "open door"
Has ushered in our enemy
Those who believe we’re evil
And don’t believe in Liberty.
What would they think, if they could see
Crime running rampant, in the street
Guns, drugs, and homeless people
And so many more, locked-in, retreat.
Would they believe, Freedoms treasured
Have been twisted all around
To where the criminals civil rights
Beat the victims, to the ground.
Would they believe, those voted to Office
Who we should trust, to guide the way
Can’t be trusted, most of the time
To live up to what, they say.
What would they think, would they rewrite
And would they take exceptance
To what we did, with what they wrote
In The Declaration Of Independence.
NEVER AGAIN
I wish they knew me better
For, they don’t have a clue
Of, what I am inside me
Why, I do some things, I do.
I can be a lot of fun
If, I am so inclined
And they’re not always serious
Those thoughts, inside my mind.
But, it does make me sad
When I see some things I see
When people who deserve it
Aren’t as happy as, could be.
I don’t like how some treat
The people they care for
And don’t see why some take it
Instead of walking out the door.
I know it isn’t easy
But, it’s a small price to pay
For a little happiness
To chase the misery, away.
Life is much too short
(Oh, how well I know!)
To live it in a place
Where you don’t want to go.
If people really cared about
What makes life worth living
They’d find "it" comes back around
If they’d practice, the giving.
But, they think about just "one"
And take all, they can get
Then, wonder why they lost
When, they had a safe, sure bet.
I’m just as guilty as rest
But learned, although it was too late
And now I don’t have a choice
But to bide my time and wait.
I’ll never make those same mistakes
And the one who takes my heart
Will never, regret the day
She made a brand-new start.
‘NOUGH SAID?
I know that I don’t talk much
And wouldn’t if I could
I say the words I shouldn’t
And don’t, the ones I should.
That’s always been my problem
(you think that I don’t know?)
I always get in trouble
When, I let my feelings show.
Nobody can be honest
Without, paying the price
Sometimes, a good payback
Sometimes, it’s not too nice.
But, the true thing within
Is, what will get you by
It’s not the things outside
That, make you laugh or cry!
Hearts will break, if you let them
If, you give them away
And, life! Will slip right by you
If, you don’t say what, you say!
SEVEN COME ELEVEN
On this day we remember
That "day of infamy"
And sadly we understand
More than we want to see.
A "sneak attack" on Freedom
And the American way
Brought back to reality
On Septembers’ eleventh day.
Thousands died in forty-one
With so many not retrieved
Resting in their watery grave
O’er which friends and family grieved.
Now we have another place
Known to all, as "Ground Zero"
Where we have another bunch
Of, the American Hero.
Sixty years of times’ passage
Hasn’t changed the "Patriot"
Hasn’t dampened our resolve
To remember, not, forget.
Those who gave their, "all"
And those, still yet, to "give"
Standing for, protecting
The kind of life, we live.
The casualties of war
Don’t always bear a gun
But, they all are Heroes
When all is said and done.
Now, we have another one
Of those "infamous" days
With the horrible cost
That Freedom, often, pays.
December 7, 2001
THE BOTTOM OF THE PIT
They've emptied out the "Pit"
Of all of the debris
But, it's still overflowing
With the Souls you cannot see.
There's twenty-eight hundred plus
And friends and family left behind
Crying out for justice
For answers of some kind.
But it seems, there are no reasons
For such an EVIL deed
No reason for the horror
Sown from that hateful seed.
Some people say their "god" (?)
Will bless them for their act
For killing all those innocents
In their despicable attack.
But, if there is such a "god"
He must live down in Hell
And, if he isn't Satan
Must be, related to that Devil.
The God most people know
Would not condone such a crime
And will punish those responsible
When it comes their time.
He'll send them down into the "Pit"
And damn them for eternity
To burn forever with their "god"
Where they deserve to be.
UNLESS I LET HER SEE
There’s still some special Ladies
But, they are kinda hard to find
Each one of them are different
Each one, their "special kind".
Most of them soft spoken
With, intelligent wit
Some of them are pretty
Some, just a little bit.
There’s some who laugh out loud
Some, with a girlish giggle
Some, who hold their breasts out
Some, walk with a wiggle.
There’s every so often
A good one comes along
Who can capture my attention
And put the words to a song.
When she gets into my mind
She’s got in there for good
And to stop the thoughts about her?
I wouldn’t, if I could.
But, anyway, I tried it
And found that wouldn’t do
I want that "special one"
To be my other part of two.
And then senses kick in
From my logical side
And tell me those feelings
Are something, I should hide.
What do I have to offer?
(I’ll be damned if I know}
Not much time or money
Just this love, to show.
So, my common sense
Says, "It will never be!"
But, I’ll never really know
Unless, I let her see.
So, guess I’ll just go on
With my wishful thinking
And just keep on watching her
As I sit here, drinking.
