A Soft, Marcelled Coat
Physically, the Cornish Rex is unique in several ways, but most unique is the cat's short, soft,
curly fur. Yes, even their whiskers are curly.
The Cornish Rex lacks the coarse guard hairs found in other breeds, and as a result, its fur
feels amazingly soft. Ideally, there should be a series of tightly waved marcels over the entire body.
The waves should extend down the tail and legs of the cat.
Cornish Rex can come in any color found in any breed of cat. Bicolors predominate and silvers are the rarest. Tabbies were once common, but except for red tabbies, few tabbies are seen today. Although still unusual, the pointed (Siamese-patterned) Cornish Rex are becoming more common since they were given championship status by CFA in 1986.
