Breed Vigor

As a rule, the breed is a healthy one. Being a relatively new breed, it still maintains the vigor of the mixed breed as a result of outcrossing. There are no extremes in body type, so problems that come from breeding for the extreme have not occurred as they have with some of the other breeds.

The only problems the breed has are cosmetic ones, which are a predisposition to dirty ears and to stud tail (a form of acne found at the base of a cat's tail). The dirty ears are simply a result of the Cornish Rex having larger ears than most other breeds of cats and their lack of guard hairs to keep the dirt out of the ears.

Stud tail is actually a misnomer because it can occur on both males and females, altered or unaltered, although it most frequently occurs on unaltered males. Spaying or neutering is a fairly effective preventative against stud tail.
