Funeral service for Sammie Albert Hicks will be held 1 PM Thursday, May 22, 2008 in Blanchard St. Denis Chapel with Rev. Ron Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery at Natchitoches, La. Visitation will be Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 11 AM until 1 PM in the funeral home. Mr. Hicks, 88, of Natchitoches, La., died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in his residence at Natchitoches, La. He was a native of Powhatan, La. He worked with the local ASC office for more than 30 years, dragging chains to measure acreage for the local farmers before getting a desk job. Many of today's farm generation may not know, or remember, or even heard of Sammie. He still had a great interest in farming and would admire the crops and enjoy seeing the farmers working the earth. He was mindful about natural resources and what they meant to future generations.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Army in France and Germany, earning a Purple Heart after getting wounded. Sammie was of the Baptist faith. He was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends. Thank you, Sammie for being such a blessing in our lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Dewit Hicks and Rena Hubbard Hicks; five sisters, Lurline Hicks Savill, Christine Hicks Walker, Argerine Hicks Scott, Ruby Dean Hicks Ainsworth, and Nadine Hicks Peek; two brothers, George Herbert Hicks, and James Carson Hicks; He is survived locally by one brother, Willie Dewitt Hicks of Natchitoches, La.; two nephews, W. Eugene Ainsworth and wife Janiece of Melrose, La. and Dennis Hicks and wife Pat of Natchitoches, La.; four nieces, Betty A. Gilcrease and husband James of Campti, La., Janet Ainsworth, Carol H. Hebert and Sherry H. Ballard of Natchitoches, La; other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews that live out of the Natchitoches, La. area.
Pallbearers will be Bill Rathburn, John Rathburn, Mickey Gilcrease, James D. Gilcrease, Andy Wayne Airhart, and George Williams. Honorary pallbearer will be all other nephews.

Blanche Byers Speakes Jergenson
SHREVEPORT, LA - Blanche Byers Speakes Jergenson passed into eternity to join her Lord and Savior on June 19, 2007. The family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Southside on June 21, 2007 between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. for visitation.
Bro. Bob Moore and Chaplain Dana Casey will conduct services at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2007 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Keithville Cemetery.
Blanche was born in rural Caddo Parish on July 29, 1921, the fourth of nine children, born to Franklin Elwood and Vermel Byers. She grew up on the family farm in Pelican, Louisiana where she graduated high school.
She retired from the LSU Extension Service. She was very proud of her success, printing the monthly newsletter, a skill she learned after becoming a widow when her husband died leaving her with five children to rear.
Mrs. Jergenson was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church and was active in the American Legion and the VFW.
Mrs. Jergenson is preceded in eternal glory by her first husband and father of her seven children, Edgar J. Speakes, and by husband and soul mate, Louis S. Jergenson, her parents, five brothers, two sisters, and her beloved grandson, Richard G. Speakes.
Mrs. Jergenson is survived by her children and their families, Thurman J. Speakes and his wife, Chris, their children, Jimmy and Karen, and six grandchildren; Jeanette Richards and her husband, Larry, their sons, Larry, Jr. and Kevin; Bernice Brossette and her husband, Keith, their children, Lydia, Annie, Bo and Sylvia, and five grandchildren; Delores Elliott and her husband, Bill, their son, Bill, Jr. and four grandchildren; Homer Speakes and his wife, Sherry; Richard Speakes and his wife, Geri, their sons, Daniel and Nathan; David Speakes and his wife, Sondra, their daughters, Tina, Sarah and Julie, and three grandchildren; her sister, Ruthe Taylor and her husband, Lawrence of Kingsburg, CA.
Her grandsons and great-grandsons will have the honor as serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Patty, Suzanne, Carol, Willis-Knighton Hospice and especially Lucy Grove, for the loving care they gave Momma.
Momma, you were a blessing in our lives. You fought a good fight and we are all proud of you. We are rejoicing with you, knowing that you can finally take that walk and have the rest that you have earned. See you Soon!

Margie Byers Green Vrabel
SHREVEPORT, LA
- Funeral services celebrating the life of Margie Byers Green Vrabel, 81, will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 9:30 a.m. in Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Reverend Crawford Williams and Reverend Trey Lewis. Interment will follow in Arlington Cemetery in Homer, LA at 12:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, February 12, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Vrabel entered into rest on Friday, February 9, 2007 at Linwood LifeCare after a lengthy illness. She was born in Hortman, LA on June 5, 1925. She lived in Minden and Converse during her childhood, moving to Shreveport in 1940, and graduated from Fair Park High School in 1943. During World War II she worked for Beaird Industries in defense work and later at Arkla Gas Company. At Arkla she met the love of her life, Kenneth E. Green and married in 1947. They later transferred to North Little Rock, AR. In 1980 she returned to Shreveport and worked as office manager for Dr. Jack Wilkerson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite and Homer Byers; her first husband, Kenneth E. Green and her second husband, Mike Vrabel; brother, Francis Byers; sister, Beatrice Chanler; and step-brother Charles R. Grimm.
She is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Mildred Wood, and Doris Thomas; and her husband, W.C. Thomas; sister-in-law, Maxine Byers; very special friend of 65 years, Mary Spataro; nephews, Ralph Wood, Leroy Chanler, Billy Thomas; nieces Janean Aaron, Karen West, and Margaret Kincaid.

Robbins, Wynnette Leake
WASKOM, TX - Wynnette Leake Robbins, 59, of Waskom passed away on August 28, 2007 in Shreveport. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 30, 2007 in the Chapel of Downs Funeral Home of Marshall with Bro. Leland Crawford officiating. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery in Waskom.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 29th at Downs Funeral Home.
Wynnette Leake Robbins was born on August 30, 1949 to Wynn Leake and Elizabeth Darby Leake. She married Jesse Robbins on March 21, 1978 in Harleton. Wynnette had owned and operated Wynnette's Hair Design in Waskom for over 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Waskom where she attended the Faith Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her husband, Jesse Robbins of Waskom; one daughter, Stacy Paige Baker and husband Alton of League City, Texas; two step sons, David Robbins and wife Laura of Waskom and Darrell Robbins of Waskom; one step daughter, Kathy De Angelis and husband Luciano of El Paso; grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Baker and Ryan Alton Baker all of League City; seven step grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Dean Williams. Leonard Johnson, Darrell Robbins, Justin Robbins, Alton baker and Billy Powell.
