HOUSTON, TX - Funeral services for Randall Wayne Stennett, 50, will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2004 in the chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Mack Black. Interment will follow at Beulah Cemetery, Lula Community. Family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time.

Mr. Stennett passed away Saturday, November 6, 2004 in Pelican, Louisiana. He was born in Pleasant Hill, LA and was a resident of Houston, TX for 13 years. Mr. Stennett was a member of 2nd Baptist Church, Houston, TX, he was a real history buff, which was well shown by his membership in The Sons of the Confederacy. He was an avid reader and loved to read every chance he had.

Mr. Stennett was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Stennett.


Survivors include his mother, Johnnie Stennett; brother, Lynn Stennett and wife Karen; niece, Renee' Swain and grandniece, Shyanne Swain and nephew, Shelby Stennett.


Pallbearers will be Bob Elliott, Bob Meredith, Joe Sayers, Bill Morton, Bryan Norwood, David Delouche.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the donor's choice.

Mr. Amos B. Mustin, Pelican Native, Dies

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Amos B. Mustin, 91, will be held at Rose-Neath's Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, Saturday, October 23, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. Officiating will be Reverend Marty Wright, pastor of Pinecroft Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery, Meriwether Road.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, October 22, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Amos passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2004 in the Glen Retirement Village. He was born August 3, 1913 in Pelican, LA and graduated from high school there. Amos worked in the CCC locally before joining the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1936. He rose to M/Sgt. prior to WWII and participated in Operation Overlord, the Normandy invasion. Afterward, he served in Japan during the Korean conflict, in the Tactical Air Command in Florida and New York. Amos served in the Strategic Air Command at Barksdale as First Sergeant of the 46th Communications Squadron and 2nd Supply Squadron as well as one year in Iceland prior to his retirement as SM/Sgt. in 1966. Amos and wife Polly settled in Shreveport after retirement, both active members of Pinecroft Baptist Church. Amos enjoyed fishing and hunting all his life and continued fishing at the Glen Retirement Village until recently.

He is survived by his son, Bobby D. Mustin of Asheville, NC and sister, Mrs. Mary Mason of Mansfield, LA.

Johnston Descendant dies in California in October

A Weaverville man died early this week when his pickup truck went off Musser Mill Road and rolled down a steep ravine.

Johnny Gator Richard Johnston, 53, was driving the pickup westbound on the dirt road either late Sunday or early Monday when the accident occurred, according to the California Highway Patrol.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered off the south side of the road 2.4 miles from Highway 3 and rolled approximately 270 feet down into the ravine, the CHP said.

Johnston, the sole occupant, was fatally injured.

Johnny Richard Johnston of Weaverville, known to friends and family as simply Gator, died Oct. 11, 2004, in an automobile accident. He was 53. He was born Aug. 5, 1951, in Shreveport, La., and spent his younger years in Southern California, Louisiana and Trinity County. He vowed at a young age to move to Trinity County and raise a family.

He moved here permanently in 1971. He started a career in the timber industry that included mill worker, logger, and most recently working for the Trinity County Resource Conservation District.

Gator was involved in Boy Scouts, Little League, girls softball, and mens softball. He could often be found with a truckload of boys headed for hunting or fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; children, Jed Johnston and Destiny DeHart; and granddaughters, Johni and Riley Johnson Dehart and Taylor Johnston. He will be especially missed by Josh and Brandy Davis and grandson Cody Davis.

A potluck gathering of friends and family will take place Saturday, Oct. 16, at noon at the Lowden Park cook shack. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner Hospital for Children Northern California, 2425

Husband of Mississippi Descendant Dies

Otis Ray "Buster" Mooneyham

SHREVEPORT, LA- Graveside services for Otis Ray "Buster" Mooneyham, 85, will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2004 with Rev. Jerry Ables, Minister of Music at First Baptist Bossier. Interment will follow at Forest Part Cemetery on St. Vincent Ave. in Shreveport, LA.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 20, 2004 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City.

Mr. Mooneyham died on Saturday, September 18, 2004 in Shreveport, LA from a lengthy illness. He was born in Sumerfield, OK and was an former resident of Oil City, LA. Mr. Mooneyham was a retired home builder known for his creativity and sense of design in the homes he built. Mr. Mooneyham was a Baptist and a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oda Richard and Augusta Dodson Mooneyham, four sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Mooneyham is survived by his wife, Juanita Maxine Mooneyham of Shreveport, LA; son, Douglas Ray Mooneyham of Danville, VA; daughters, Norma Jean Johns and husband Billy of Danville, VA, Carolyn Rodriguez of Whiteright, TX; sister Mary Leona Pinchera of Oil City, LA; step-children, Bobby Kelsh, Jr. and wife,Jennifer of Niles, OH, Vickie Kelsh Carter of Shreveport, LA, David Kelsh of Bossier City, LA; grandchildren, Gary Rodriguez, Cassie Rodriguez, William Johns, Brain Johns and three great grandchildren. He also leave behind his faithful Chihuahua companion Max.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Barnett for his compassion and speical care of our loved one and the staff Christus Schumpert ICU for all their kindness. Otis was extremely knowledgeable on the Bible and greatly enjoyed conversing on the subject of his Lord and Saviour with others.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Homer Oscar Byers, 74, of Shreveport, LA will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2004 at Summer Grove Baptist Church. Officiating will be Dr. W. D. "Step" Martin and Dr. Rod Masteller. Interment will follow in Pelican Cemetery, Pelican, LA. Visitation will be Thursday, July 15, 2004 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Byers passed away on Tuesday, July 13. Homer is survived by his wife, Mary Lyons Byers; daughters Debra Byers of Shreveport and Mary Ellen Lecocq of Grapevine, Texas; sons John Phillip Byers of Jupiter, FL., Steven Homer Byers of Greenville, SC, and James Craig Byers of Pembrooke Pines, FL; sisters Blanche Jerganson of Shreveport and Ruthe Taylor of Dinuba, CA; grandchildren James and John Lecocq, Joshua, John and Mary Elizabeth Byers and Casey and Bradley Byers and numerous nieces and nephews.

Homer began his professional career as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service working for 17 years. He then founded and operated Homer O. Byers Construction Company for 45 years.

Homer lived his life by example...filled with integrity, generosity and hard work. He was a true success story in life as well as business and an inspiration to all who knew him.

Homer served his Lord as Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday Schools, Department Director and Sunday School teacher at Calvary and Summer Grove Baptist Churches.

Pallbearers are Burnes Wilburn, Roy Fair, Theo McLemore, Bill Bradshaw and Bobby Parker. Honorary Pallbearers are Bobby Jackson, Jack Anderson, Deacons of Summer Grove Baptist Church and Homer's Sunday School Dept. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Johnston/Mississippi Settlement Descendant Dies in May

Shreveport, LA – Funeral services for Harvey Joseph Johnson, 77, of Shreveport will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 30, 2004 in Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will e Pastors Rodney and Denny Duron of First Assembly of God. Burial will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m.

Harvey was born October 20, 1926 in Pelican, LA to the late Winnick and Lurline Davis Johnson. He passed away Thursday, May 27, 2004 in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. He graduation from Fair Park High School in 1945 and was an All-State football player and later attended Northwestern State College. Harvey was a U.S.M.C. veteran of WWII and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 26 years of service. Mr. Johnson was an outstanding fast pitch softball player in the 50’s and 60’s. He enjoyed coaching youth football and baseball. He became a Christian in 1972 and was a member of the First Assembly of God for 32 years.

Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Connie Johnson; a son, Eric Johnson and Wife, Debbie; daughters, Tam Burford and husband, Jimmy and Christi Cooley and husband Craig; 8 grandchildren, Stacy James, Chad Johnson, Mandi Gordon and husband Phillip, Wendy Rimmer and husband, Jeremy, Kim Sheedy and husband, Link, Laura George and husband, Kale, Brian Burford and Bill James; 7 great-grandchildren, Cody Smith, Tristan Rimmer, Justin Sheedy, Tyley Rimmer, Siera Sheedy, Trace Gordon and Preslee Gordon.
