Milton Ashford Nelson, Sr.

HAUGHTON, LA- Funeral services for Milton Ashford Nelson, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Hill Crest Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gevan Spinney, pastor of First Baptist Church of Haughton officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. Visitation will precede the services at 10:00 a.m. at the Hill Crest Funeral Home.

Milton was born on January 23, 1923 in Shreveport to Robert Clyde Nelson and Edna Durham Nelson. He was a lifelong resident of Bossier Parish and passed away on July 17, 2008 in Bossier City after an extended illness. Milton was a veteran of the United States Air Force, longtime employee and manager of Chain Battery and owner of Nelson's Auto Parts in Bossier City. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Haughton.

Milton was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bertram Nelson, Robert Clyde Nelson,Jr and Josey H. Nelson and four sisters, Olieve McCain, Elsie Bumgardner, Marjorie Nelson and twin sister, Mildred Dumas.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eunetta "Det" Bowman Nelson; one daughter, Cynthia Sheffield; two sons, Milton Ashford "Bud" Nelson, Jr. and wife, Linda and Clyde Bradford "Brad" Nelson and wife, Tracy; seven grandchildren, Allison Sheffield Davis and husband, Jeff, Lynda Nelson Thompson and husband, Chad, Jeremy Nelson, Michael Nelson, Ashlea Nelson, Colton Alford and Bailey Nelson and one great-grandson, Trace Thompson.

Milton was a man who spoke his mind and loved with his heart and hand. He wanted and gave only the best that he had to his children and grandchildren. The fruits of his harvest, whether they were from his garden or life, were freely given and shared with friends and family. Milton was thankful to God for a full, happy life and was ready to pave the way to heaven for his family.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Nelson, Michael Nelson, Colton Alford, Jeff Davis, Marvin Bumgardner, Bryan Dumas and Robert Dumas.

Honorary pallbearers will be Milton's close friends and neighbors.

SHREVEPORT, LA -

Services will be conducted at Centuries Funeral Home Chapel for Jerlline Robbins Rodgers, age 78 of Shreveport, La. on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. John Harp of Brookwood Baptist Church where Mrs. Rodgers was a member. Interment to follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Rodgers entered into rest on Sunday May 14, 2006 after a sudden illness. She was born in Pelican, La. and was a life long resident of Shreveport. She retired from L.S.U. Medical Center as a Phlebotomist Specialist. Mrs. Rodgers worked in the nursery at Brookwood Baptist Church for over thirty years. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Monroe J. Rodgers, two sisters, one brother, and a granddaughter, Amanda Rodgers. She is survived by two sons, Larry Rodgers and wife Dalna of Doyline, La., and Glenn Rodgers and wife Della of Shreveport, La.; one brother, Jesse Robbins of Waskom, Tx.; eight grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The pallbearers will be the grandsons.

Mr. Arthur N. Robbins

MANSFIELD, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Arthur N. Robbins, 87, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Rose-Neath Chapel in Mansfield, LA with Larry Pridmore officiating. Burial will be at Highland cemetery. Family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, Mansfield from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, November 27, 2006.

Mr. Robbins, a welder and merchant, died November 26, 2006. Born in Pelican, LA, he was a lifelong resident of Mansfield, LA.

He is survived by a son, Billy Robbins; grandsons, Kevin and Cody Robbins, granddaughter, Gail Robbins; special nephew Wayne Williams.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64+ years Florette Robbin; sons, Mack, Steve and Paul Robbins.

James William Joyner

SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for James William Joyner of Pelican will be held on Friday, December 8th, at 11:00 am at Pelican United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Pelican Cemetery. Reverends Doris Sheppard and Mike McKee will conduct the services. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am preceding the service at the church.

Mr. Joyner died in Shreveport after a short illness on Wednesday December 6th. Jim was born March 9th, 1927 in Mansfield and raised in Pelican where he graduated from Pelican high School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater from 1945 to 1947. He attended Louisiana State University earning a degree in electrical engineering in 1949. He started work at Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph company in 1953 in Shreveport and retired in 1985, after 32 years of service, rising to the posisition of General Manager of Network Planning and Engineering for Louisiana. During his career with Southern Bell and BellSouth, he was active in the IEEE and Telephone Pioneers. He returned to Pelican in 1990. He was an active member of the Pelican United Methodist Church and a certified lay speaker, a volunteer fireman, a member and former officer of the DeSoto Historical and Genealogical Society, and past President and Board Member of the Rambin Wallace Water System.

Mr. Joyner is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Fay Joyner and his first wife, Jackie Joyner. He is survived by wife Margaret Warren Joyner of Pelican and her mother Rose Warren of New Orleans. He is also survived by his brother Robert Joyner of Lafayette and spouse Betty Whatley Joyner; three children and their spouses: Hugh and Jane Joyner of Lakeland Florida; Henry and Betsy Joyner of Colleyville Texas; and Annette and Olaf McDavid of Baton Rouge; step daughter Alexandra and spouse Michael Houghton of Birmingham, Alabama; and eight grandchildren: Jamie, Robbie, Sarah, and Kaydi Joyner; Joshua, Jordan and Tucker Tremblay; and Christopher and his spouse Violet Tremblay.

SHREVEPORT, LA- Funeral services will be held for Helen Edwards on Saturday at 11:00 AM, December 29, 2007, in the Forest Park Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Shreveport. Helen passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at the age of 85. Officiating will be Majors David and Cherry Craddock of The Salvation Army Church.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 28, 2007, at Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Ave., Shreveport, LA.

Mrs. Edwards served 30 years as an Officer of The Salvation Army. After retiring, Helen continued to volunteer her time for The Salvation Army.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, George Edward Bowman, Jr. and her son, David Eugene Bowman.

She is survived by two daughters; Elizabeth Ann Cluckey and husband, James of Greenwood, LA and Doris Bowman of Shreveport, LA; a son, Don Bowman Sr. and wife, Helen of North Stonington, CT; three grandchildren, Donald Bowman Jr., and wife, Heather of Ashaway, RI, Stacy Mayne and husband, Bob of North Stonington, CT and John Bowman of North Stonington, CT and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charles Bowman, Jim Cluckey, Brad Nelson, Bud Nelson, Robert Morgan and Todd Carlen.
