Wheels and Spindles
I learned to spin on this Lendrum wheel and it is still my favourite.
This wheel is on semi-permanent loan from dyer friend, Sandy.  It was identidied by several viewers as an Indian Head loom, used to spin thick Cowachin yarn.  I'm still having difficulty managing the heel-toe motion which starts it and keeps it spinning.
These support spindles were purchased from the maker at a market in Oaxaca.  Eric had purchased some of them for a silk spinner in a village we visited (See my link to A weaver's tour of Oaxaca)   The spinner used broken cups or small pieces of gourd as the support dish.
I found this wheel in Victoria and am in the process of restoring it.  Perhaps I will be able to get in into working order on my next trip to BC.  The mother-of-all is held in place by hard leather strips and pegs.
