TV Times: This lively and underrated film of J B Priestley's famous back-stage story was made 25 years after the Jessie Matthews-John Gielgud original. The tuneful score includes six songs with lyrics by Paddy Roberts, and the remarkable cast will keep starspotters busy. And, if Janette Scott is certainly no Matthews, her verve and enthusiasm, together with the sympathetic playing of the entire cast, more than make amends, as she and Paddy Stone dance up a storm while Celia Johnson and Eric Portman, back stage, make off with the acting honours. Excellent colour photography and fairly fizzy direction from J Lee Thompson.
