Chui T’ien Sheng-ti (The Emperors of the Nine Heavens)
Hsiao Ho: Former Han prim minister who made a major contribution to the Han – One of the three Heroes. Prayed to for protection as well as reported to all clan family changes.
Wang Kung: Able to cure illness and stop epidemics.
Ma Yuan or Hsien-feng: Known as a river god, he is worshipped for his magical efficacy in providing satisfactory solutions to daily problems. Famous for the southern expansion of Chinese into Vietnam.
The Three Sworn Brothers (Kuan-ti, Liu Pei, Chang-fei)
Kuan-Ti (Heavenly Emperor), Kuan Yu (Personal name), Kuan Kung: A bean curd sellsman. He is all things to all men, he is prayed to for protection, prosperity, personal problems, domestic problems, national and universal problems. Used as an exorcist, temple protector, patron of literature and as the God of war to outsiders of Taoism. Worshipped as the God of soldiers, police, firemen, destroyer of demons, long life for the aged, The god of the Ching dynasty, secret societies, patron of merchants, businessmen, to guide the dead through the underworld, scholars seeking fame, and the guarantee for safe travel.
Liu Pei: A straw sandal maker. He led a volunteer army to defeat the yellow turbans. He faught to restore the power of the Han. In 221 he became the ruler of Shu, and later founded the Western Han.
Chang Fei: A butcher. Known as the Tiger general of Shu, known as a man that kept his word, of great courage and impetuosity.
Chu-ko Liang, K’ung-ming or Wu Hou (Military Duke): A great poet, statesman, engineer, military genius and counselor to Lui Pei.
