Brief History Of The Eskie
The American Eskimo is a beautiful, small to mid-size white dog who has been around the United States for about 100 years. In that time it has acquired almost as many names as he has friends. "Spitz," and "American Spitz" are the most common. The United Kennel Club has registered this breed as the American Eskimo since 1923.The American Kennel Club, which accepted the breed in 1994, calls it the American Eskimo Dog. Undeniably, the American Eskimo is a spitz, but the spitz family refers to all full-coated pointed-eared, fox faced dogs who carry their tails over their back. This includes the Pomeranian, Samoyed, Keeshond and the Artic sled dogs, as well as the American Eskimo. The Ringling Circus had American Eskimo Dogs in their show, in the 1940s and 1950s, there was a performing act of Eskies that included the only dog to walk the tightrope.
