The Ninety-Nines were founded on November 2, 1929, at Curtis Field,
Valley Stream, Long Island, New York, by noted aviatrix Amelia Earhart
and other early women pilots. All 117 women pilots at the time were
invited to assemble for mutual support and the advancement of aviation.
The organization took its name from the number of charter members.
The membership was international from the beginning and Earhart was elected
first president.
The charter date of the Greater Kansas City Chapter is October
24, 1940.
Our mission is to promote world fellowship through flight;
provide networking and scholarship opportunities
for women, and aviation education in the community;
and to preserve the unique history of women in aviation.
