OK, so Creed's been around since the late '90s and I've only discovered them in early 2002. Hey, just prior to then I was still stuck in the 70's music-wise, and actually abhorred music the likes of Pearl Jam, etc. But thanks to local classic rock radio station WLUP playing My Sacrifice and catching the video on MTV occasionally (this exposure also applies to my interest in Nickleback), I began to find myself thinking "hey, they aren't half bad!" An article in USA Today alluding to Creed's musical inspirations of Led Zeppelin and the Doors piqued my interest even more (I just know I hear Zep's The Ocean in the Creed song Signs) and then there were the pictures that came with the article...I instantly fell for Scott Stapp (like millions of other women). Throw in VH1's BTM and and interesting game of internet Survivor between me, fellow Creed fanatic StefBree and the RCDV gang, wherein Stapp and Tremonti got tossed off almost as fast as Jimmy Page and Tommy Lee Jones (you had to be there)...I must say I was hooked!
I now know the words to almost every song on Weathered, Human Clay and My Own Prison (can't wait for album 4) and narrowly missed seeing them in concert in Dec. 02--which in retrospect might be a good thing (don't even get me started on that lawsuit B.S.). Creed's music is like nothing else (and FAR better than Pearl Jam, who has become tolerable). All you need to do is listen to an acoustic version of their songs to realize how simply beautiful Stapp's voice is. Tremo's guitar playing is ranked up there with the likes of Jimmy Page and Rik Emmett (from Triumph) as the only guitarists that can get me off simply by listening to them play! Flip (Scott Phillips) is the rock behind the group. I think Human Clay is a much better display of this talent on the drums. I would love to hear a drum solo by him the likes of John Bonham's Moby Dick.
The lyrics to their songs are nothing short of inspirational. I can relate so well to so much of it. It's wonderful to hear music about something other than sex and drugs. And the songs Don't Stop Dancing and With Arms Wide Open make me cry everytime. I only wish they hadn't broken up!
