Robertson Cemetery

Town of Dryden, Tompkins County, NY
Located on Baker Hill Road, off Rt. 366 near its junction with Rt. 13N
This Cemetery is believed to be the oldest Cemetery in the Town of Dryden.
 

Gretchen NAIL, was the first child to be buried in this cemetery,
she d. July 2, 1802, She was the daughter of Henry & Elizabeth (Snyder) Nail,
Gretchen's mother followed her in death just a short time later, dying Sept. 22, 1802 at the age of 25 years.

This headstone believed to be that of Jacob CRUTTS b. abt. 1767 d. ?, he was still living in 1850, age 83 yrs.,
if he was 88 yrs., old when he died he would of died around 1856. This Jacob Crutts would be SR.

Mary Alice, died Aug. 13, 1857,  aged 4 yrs  3 mos., daughter of Jacob & Mary A. CRUTTS

Note:Headstone is lying on ground, Jacob Crutts married Mary A. Banfield.  Mary Ann Banfield was the daughter of:  Edward & Patty ( Cooper ) Banfield.  This Jacob Crutts would be JR., son of Jacob & Catharine (Snyder) Crutts.  Also Edward Crutts born Oct 12, 1831, died Feb. 19, 1831 son of Jacob & Mary Crutts, could also be buried here.  As their son, Mylo, born Feb. 28, 1832 died Feb. 22, 1834.  Another son Franklin 1845-1846, listed a bottom of this page.  Children of Jacob and Mary were;  Edwin, Edward, William, Mylo, Merenno, Wilbert, Franklin, Emma, Mary Alice.

Anson BISHOP, died Feb. 22, 1850,  age. 21 yrs 10 mos , 6 da.

Headstone is lying on ground.   Anson Bishop married Delina Snyder, b. abt. 1815, she was the daughter of William & Rachel (Sweazy) Snyder, the 1850 census, she had no husband living with her.  Children were; Hortensa R, Phidelphia, Selonia, Oscar D., Demetrius / Tompkins Co., Grave inscriptions state age was 32 years.

Believe this grave to be that of Philip Schuyler ROBERTSON, one of the first settlers in Dryden, Tompkins Co., born, May 4, 1774 died Aug. 4, 1842.  He died in Dryden, married Elsie Sweezy, they had a son Oakley who married Syliva M. Fulkerson.  Philip was the son of Robert  & Josephine Robertson

Two records for her maiden name have been found, First record states Anna Voorhees, she was living with her son Ira W. Snyder in 1865 age 83, she must of died shortly after the census records were taken.

Two children were the first burials 1801, two Snyder Children Elizabeth Naile
dau. of Peter Snyder and Mary (Shaver) is believed to be the first Adult to die in the Town,

 * Gretchen NAIL, was the first child to be buried in this cemetery, she d. July 2, 1802 a small child, Gretchen died from the measles contracted at a water tavern in Pennslvania on the way to the town of Dryden.  Her mother Elizabeth died soon after.

Amy (Hammond) daughter of Thomas & Alice (Stone) Hammond and wife of Nathan Wood is also buried next to her mother in this cemetery.

Thomas Hammond is buried in Chenango Valley

From the pioneer Alice, through her son Thomas, is descended the numerous Hammond family of Virgil; and through George and William and his wife, Polly Tanner, come the now well known law firm of Hammond & Hammond, of Seneca Falls, NY.   From pioneer Alice, through her daughter Amy and her husband Nathan, and their son Benjamin Wood, and his wife, Mary Bonesteel, are descended the conspicuous Wood family, of Western Dryden; and through their daughter Mary Ann, whose husband was the Hon. Ezra Cornell, of Cornell University fame, comes Ex-Grovernor Cornell.

 
Another person I would believe that may be buried here is that of:  Christopher (Christian) Schneider/Snider/Snyder.  He was born in 1746 in Oxford Twp. NJ and his death was in 1803 at  Dryden, Tompkins Co. NY, he was the son of  Cristoffer Schneider &  Katrina Snyder.  His children were: Katriana (Crutts), William, Mary (Brown), Dau. married ____Dart, Christopher, Sarah (Sovocool), David, and Margaret (Rhodes) Elizabeth, Anna, Susanna.

 

D. A. R. records state that the following  Revolutionary War Soldiers are buried in this cemetery
1. George McCutcheon
George McCutcheon was born Sept. 22, 1761 in Scotland, he died Oct. 14, 1846 ( he had a will), his father was Andrew McCutcheon and his mother was Jan Adair.  He married Nancy Robertson, daughter of Robert & Josephine Robertson.  She was born May 10, 1761 and died Oct. 18, 1841.  Their children were: Robert, Elizabeth, Andrew, Mary, Jane, Nancy, Philip, George, Aaron, Anna.
[Record is found where George McCutcheon was reinterred in Pleasant Grove Cem, Ithaca, Tompkins Co., NY
 

2. Captain Robertston
This I believe was Captain George Robertson who marrid Mary Smith.  He was the son of Robert & Josephine Robertson., He died April 4, 1844.  Children were; Nancy, Thomas, Robert, Phebe, Corilla, John, Theodore, Cyrus, Hiram D., Pauline, Smith, Philip. Mott J. Robertson
