Hello & Welcome to My Site !!
The Following pages will be dedicated to some history and pictures of Nova's that I've owned and the Restoration of My 1969 Super Sport. My first Nova I bought while a senior in High School. I purchased the Nova brand new in 1969. It was Cortez Silver with a black vinyl top. The interior had black vinyl bench seats and rubber floor mat ( not carpet ), I couldn't afford the S.S. options or bucket seats. The deluxe exterior package included body side mouldings, fender louvers and chrome window trim. The engine was a Turbo-Fire 307 with a 2 barrel carb. 200 hp. & 300 ft. lbs. torque ( stock rated ). It had a Saginaw 4 speed transmission and an open 10 bolt rear with 2.73 gears.
I started adding performance goodies as money would allow. Starting with the engine, I had the heads milled, ported and polished and a competition valve job with all the extras. TRW 10.5:1 Compression Pistons and Crane Cam were added at the same time. Later came the Edelbrock Tarantula manifold, Holley 800 cfm ( Yes, I was young and impressionable and I thought bigger was better !! ), double pumper and Hooker Competition headers with Walker Continental " Blue Swinger " glass packs. Last but not least was a Zoom 4.11 posi setup. Finally, I got My Baby some New Shoes. The tires were Mickey Thompson Indy Profile J-60's on the rear and Goodyear Polyglas F-70's up front and Cragar S/S wheels all around.
To keep the M/T's from scraping the quarter panels, I added Gabriel Hi-Jackers.
After all engine modifications the Horsepower was 305 & 365 ft. lbs. Torque. Then came the dreaded moving violations !! I couldn't keep my foot out of the carb & had to sell My Pride & Joy in 1971, because I could no longer afford the higher insurance premiums or lawyers fees. Sad Day that was :-(
3 years later I bought a 1974 Nova, also brand new, but underpowered because of the so-called "ENERGY CRISIS " and the added weight of the energy absorbing bumpers & added restrictions of the model year. It just wasn't the same as the '69, even though I tried! Horsepower ratings for the '74 were, 160bhp. and 245 ft. lbs. torque, stock. The '74 had a Copper exterior with deluxe trim and vinyl bench seats, 4 speed transmission, Q-jet and 3.08 Limited Slip rear. Exhaust was Hedman Hedders with Hush Thrush mufflers. Tires were M/T's on the rear and I kept the original Uniroyals up front, with Ansen Sprint wheels all around. I sold the '74 two years later to a "Youngster" in High School who liked the 8-track player with 6 speakers I had in it. Go Figure ! Now I own another '69, but this one's a Super Sport and I plan on keeping Her a long, long time ;-)
