Extracted from the Southern Cross Newspaper 21 August 1860:
The ship Persia, Captain J H Smith, was signalled during the afternoon of Sunday, and made her appearance round the North Head on Monday morning, where, after several ineffective attempts to work up into harbour against the stiff westerley gale then blowing, she was compelled to bring up, and where she still remains. The Persia has had a tempestuous and protracted passage of a hundred and eleven days, having sailed from Gravesend on the 1st of May. On the 5th, the pilot left the ship off the Isle of Wight, and in a few days afterwards, when just off soundings, she encountered a violent gale from the South-west, in the course of which she sprung her.....................................................
