A very special welcome to the thieves at the kenora.ca web site
who stop by from time to time to rip off the information I post here!
Visit their version of my page
or download the archive I made of it here. I'm flattered that they think my information is good enough to steal, I wish I could say the same about theirs!
Hey guys - I recently updated the OPP frequency info, so you'd better get busy and update your page too!
The area's FBB packet BBS was taken out of service in June 1999. The area's
TheNet Plus 2.08 packet nodes VE3JJS-2:ONKEN and
VE3RMU-2:ONSXN were removed from service a short time later.
APRS stations are the only packet radio resources available in Kenora at this time,
with activity taking place on 144.390 MHz.
3750 kHz LSB - HF operators are welcome to participate in
the Northwest Ontario ARES net at 7:15 pm Central time. 3750 is used by
area HF operators as a calling and working frequency, and they can often
be heard there during the day and evening.
7055 kHz LSB - This frequency is a common calling frequency
during the day and hosts many nets such as the
Trans-Provincial Net
(Ontario) and the Aurora Afternoon and Evening Nets. At night it's usually
smothered by CW transmissions.
14.140 MHz USB - If you're looking for Canadian Hams,
this is the frequency to use! The "Canadian calling frequency" has
operators from across Canada monitoring throughout the day. On weekends,
14.140 hosts a national traffic net.

Radio Clubs and Repeater Links
Ambulance operations have primarily switched over to the Fleetnet radio trunking system. The old ambulance frequencies
of 149.335 MHz and 149.245 MHz are no longer in operation. 149.830 MHz is still active on occasion with First Response teams
(mostly volunteer fire departments) talking with ambulance dispatch. The helicopter ambulance communicates with
dispatch via a repeater on 413.6875 MHz. Ambulance paging continues to operate as before on 149.440 MHz. Ambulances using the Fleetnet
radio trunking system can continue to be monitored with conventional FM-mode scanners via the low-power
in-ambulance repeaters operating in the 413 MHz band, usually 413.7625 MHz. For successful reception of these
ambulance repeaters, the paramedics have to turn on their ambulance repeater and the low-power
re-transmission from the ambulance has to be within the range of the scanner operator.

The OPP in this district have fully switched over to the Fleetnet radio trunking system as of February 2008.
Their communications can continue to be monitored with conventional FM-mode scanners by tuning to the in-car
repeater frequency of 410.8625 MHz.
Fleetnet
The OPP and most provincial government agencies communicate using the province-wide Fleetnet trunking radio
system operating primarily in the 142 MHz band. Fleetnet operates in both analog FM mode and in digital mode
using a common digital control channel at each tower site. Ambulance and the highways department use FM mode,
while law enforcement including the OPP, Treaty 3 Police and MNR and MTO officers operate in digital mode.
The control channel at each tower site transmits 100% of the time and does not carry any voice transmissions.
The actual communications take place on voice channels that the control channel assigns when needed.
I have observed the following talkgroups active in the area
