In 2004 the Community Council secured a grant of €42,000 from Cork County Council to help fund the installation of a Children’s Playground in the town. In August 2004 the Playground Action Committee was formed, to date an additional €18,000 has been raised locally. We hope to raise an additional €20,000 by next June. Our preferred location for the Playground is the Market Green and at a Local Community Council meeting recently, all present at the meeting voted in favour of the proposal. We are currently seeking quotations and are tabling a couple of proposals, we have requested the equipment to be sited on the green areas between the footpaths , and that the material used is wood in order to blend in better with the surroundings. All equipment used must be type approved, an independent body will inspect the playground on completion if all is well a cert will be issued .The County Council will then take over the maintenance and insurance of the Playground.
