From the moment they met in 1996, Greta and Shadow became instant companions. Shadow was found on a construction site, dying of starvation. His ears were filled with mites and, after many visits to the vet, it was discovered that Shadow is feline HIV infected.
While shopping for food for Shadow at Pet Pals in Jacksonville, FL, I noticed a cage with kittens for adoption with the purchase of pet supplies. The amount depended on the breed of the kitten.
As I approached this wonderful playhouse the proprietor had for these babies, a rustling noise came from underneath the paper laid on the floor. A small head popped out, jumped at the cage and hid. I was so shocked I screamed! It looked like a ferret, but in a cage with kittens?
No, it was a tortie kitty which I thought was so ridiculous looking I couldn't leave without her. Her personality warmed my heart. Driving home I kept thinking, "I'm going to regret her....I'm going to regret her." Hence her true name "I-Re-Greta." Now known affectionately as Greta. And, I don't regret a moment of sharing my home with "Ms. I-Re-Greta" or Shadow!
