Students
are determined in Kurdish
Campaign of
university students for Kurdish education continues in spite of attempts
of YOK (Higher
Education Council) to obstruct it.

Students continue
their actions demanding Kurdish education. The other day witnessed
action in a
number of universities in Turkey and protests against YOK.
Desks for
reading Kurdish
450 students
in Bogazici University submitted their demands for Kurdish education to
the r
ector. The
students in Dokuz Eylul and Ege Universities organized Kurdish reading
desks in
canteens. The
desks including Kurdish books, magazines and newspapers attracted much
attention.
In Izmir a signature
campaign was launched for Kurdish to be recognized as a selective
course.
The students
who submitted their petitions to Istanbul University administration and
were
turned down
the other day, went to the administration yesterday again. 150 petitions
were doubled
yesterday.
3 detentions
When the administration
declined the petitions, nearly 250 student organized a protest
demonstration.
Police forces detained 3 students. Today (yesterday) the students will
make a press
statement in Human Rights Association Istanbul Branch.
On the other
hand YOK was protested by leaflets in Adana Cukurova University. The l
eaflets wrote
the following: “If scientific education is to be prevailed, Kurdish education
should be guaranteed
by the Constitution. We call on all rectors and non-governmental
organizations
to support our campaign.”
Marmara University
in Istanbul assumed a negative stance following the YOK instruction.
The petitions
signed by 150 students were declined by rector.
