Iraq Condemns Turkish Aggression on the North
Baghdad, July 9, INA
Iraq has newly condemned Turkish violations of its sovereignty and security
through the
repeated military aggression on northern Iraq.
In a letter to Secretary-General of the Arab League Amr Moussa, Acting
Foreign Minister
Tareq Aziz said between June 17-19, last, carriers loaded with 50 tanks
headed for Arbil
district. Across the same point, other 40 tanks went towards Duhok
and Zakho districts,
part of which settled in Bamarni airport.
Aziz said that such repeated aggression represented an encroachment
upon Iraq’s airspace
and territory, and a flagrant violation of the U.N Charter. It completely
contradicted the
principles of good neighborliness and international law, Aziz added.
He regretted that the Turkish government continuously justified its
violations and repeated
aggression on Iraq under such flimsy pretexts as tracking groups threatening
Turkey’s
security.
Aziz called on the Secretary-General of the Arab League to urge the
Turkish government to
put an end to such provocative unjustifiable acts and respect Iraq’s
sovereignty.
