An Iraqi Missile Falls On An Elementary School
July 13, 2001
An Iraqi anti-air missile hit a school two days ago in the village of
Zinawa, near the Kurdish
city Shaikhan, reported the London based Arabic daily newspaper, Sharq
Al-Awsat, last
Wednesday.
The missile was fired by the Iraqi forces at the American and
British military planes patrolling
the no-fly-zone.
The school was severely damaged. Fortunately, there were no student
or staff casualties as
the school had been closed for the summer holiday period.
A villager interviewed by the Arabic newspaper Sharq Al-Awsat said villagers
in the area
are uneasy about such incidents which seem to be on the increase.
