Kurdish Delegation Meets U.S. Officials

(The Kurdistan Observer) Oct 14, 2001. A joint delegation of both Kurdish parties in
southern ( Iraqi) Kurdistan met the U.S.official last Thursday, reported the Arabic
newspaper Sharq Al Awsat today.

Barham Salih, the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government-Sulaimaniya, and 
Hoshiar Zebari, the principal official of the KDP for international relations, held several
meetings with White House and State Department officials. 

The Kurdish envoys discussed with American officials the latest developments in Kurdistan
and abroad. 

The U.S. officials told the Kurdish delegation that although the United States is focusing on
the war on terrorism, it is monitoring the situation in Kurdistan and Iraq very closely. 

The American officials reaffirmed their pledge to protect the Kurdistan region against
any aggression, and continued support for legitimate principle of 13% share of the Oil for
Food Program revenues for the region.
