Talabani Meets UN Delegation

The General Secretary of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Jalal Talabani held talks, August
12, 2001, with Tom Myet, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, concerning the
latest developments in the implementation process of the UN Security Council Resolution
986 in Kurdistan region. The high level UN delegation also included Hussain Alfi, the
Deputy Coordinator for Kurdistan affairs, Patricia Stenhouse, Program Official and P.O.
Sebastian, the Permanent UN Representative in Sulaimani and Sonia Doment, the UN
Information Officer.

Mr.Talabani offered a number of observations and proposals to the UN delegation
concerning improving the implementation mechanism of the Oil for Food Program in
Kurdistan and urged the United Nations to enhance its support for the region in its role
regarding Resolution 986. The two sides discussed all the humanitarian, service and
development projects within the aegis of the international resolution and ways of improving
the implementation process.

Mr.Talabani held a dinner reception in honor of the United Nations delegation in the evening
at Sulaimani Palace Hotel.
