16-11-00-afp-eu-court-cinvicts-tky European court convicts Turkey of violating Kurd's rights

STRASBOURG, France, Nov 16 (AFP)  A European court convicted Turkey of "inhuman
acts" Thursday for destroying the home of a Kurdish citizen in the country's southeast.

The European Court of Human Rights ordered Turkey to pay Ihsan Bilgin 36,600 euros (31,000
US dollars) for material and moral damage and 35,800 euros in expenses.

Turkish police destroyed Bilgin's home and belongings in Batman in the province of Diyarbakir.

The court said the act violated articles three and eight of the European Human Rights
 Convention.

It said destroying the man's home and belongings, under the pretext that they would otherwise
be used by terrorists, was an "inhuman act."

The judges also said Turkey tried to exercise "a form of illicit and unacceptable pressure" on the
40-year-old Kurd by trying to stop him seeking justice at the European court.
