KDP Denies The Oil Exploration Claim in Southern (Iraqi) Kurdistan

(The Kurdistan Observer) Dec 16, 2001.A Spokesman for Kurdistan Democratic Party denies the reports on the alleged Turkish plans to start exploring for oil in Kurdish-run Southern (Iraqi) Kurdistan.

General Manager Kenan Veziroglu of Turkey's state petroleum company said the exploration work would be carried out in areas administered by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) of Massoud Barzani.   

Iraq and Turkish government have also denied the report.
