A Bomb Explodes In Front Of A U.N. Occupied
Building In Iraqi Kurdistan
July 16, 2001
A bomb containing a large amount of TNT exploded Friday night in front
of a building
housing KRO, a U.N. relief agency operating in Iraqi Kurdistan, reported
the London based
Arabic newspaper, Al Zaman, last Saturday.
The bomb exploded in the town of Ain Kawa near the Capital city Irbil
causing damage to
the agency's building and a number of dwellings in that neighborhood.
No one has yet been arrested for setting the bomb. However, investigators
believe it is an act
of terrorism aimed at the presence of the U.N. agencies, which over
the last decade, have
been helping the Kurds with food, shelter and other essential humanitarian
services.
