Cabinet Shuffle In The KDP-Led Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)

(Tke Kurdistan Observer) August 16, 2001. On Wednesday, August 15, 2001, cabinet
changes were announced in the KRG which is presided by  Naichirvan Barzani.  The
changes took place after a special parliamentary session, headed by Ruj Noori Shawees,
approved the new cabinet.  The swearing-in of the new ministers took place in the Kurdistan 
Parliament attended by Leader of the Parliament, Mr. Shawees,  President of the KRG, Mr.
Naichirvan Barzani, other members of the Parliament, and representatives of other Kurdish
political parties, organizations, and the media.

Seven new members were appointed to the cabinet, while four ministers, among them some
prominent members, were released of their cabinet posts.   The names removed from the
cabinet included Mr. Fadil Mirani, Minister of Interior, Mr. Zayeem Ali, Minister of
Military Affairs, and Mr. Falakadeen Kakayyi, Minister of Education.  Mr. Mirani and
Zayeem Ali will focus their efforts on the party’s political affairs as members of the Political
Bureau.

Among the new cabinet members are: Kareem Sinjari (Interior), Mahmoud Muhammad
Mahmoud, (Education), Hameed Afandi (Army, Peshmerge Affirs).
