Human right abuses against Kurdish nation in Syria

17/09/2001 Kurdistan Human Rights Commission
Maastricht, September 16, 2001

Dr. Bashar Al- Assad ,
President of Syrian Arab Republic,
Presidencial Palace,
Damascus , SYRIA.

From: Frank Ramaer, Chairman of The Kurdistan Human Rights Commission

Dear Sir,

We are writing you following our letter dated 4th. August, 2001, asking you to investigate
the abuses of human rights in the ethnic Kurdish regions in Syria.

We were informed that your government has taken the first step towards the principles and
goals which we passionately believe in.

According to reports received, representatives of the Syrian government have met three
Kurdish leaders in Syria to discuss human rights problems and abuses in ethnically Kurdish
populated areas of Syria.

We are very glad to hear that action is being taken to address these issues. We appreciate the
work now going on and we hope that you will have the strength and ability to overcome any
obstacles. We also hope that these steps will be followed by other democratic and human
measures to eliminate all traces of abuses and discrimination in Syria.

Yours faithfully
