Columnist Says Kurds Won't Watch Govt. Propaganda
Sabah
November 16, 2000
by Gulay Gokturk:

If the state is going to broadcast programs in Kurdish via a kind of state-owned "Turkish
Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) Kurd" channel as Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit
and Deputy Prime Minister Mesut Yilmaz seem to be desiring, that is, with a "TRT-3"
channel mentality, I think there is no cause for anybody to worry about the "hazardous
effects" of Kurdish broadcasting. You can rest assured that such a channel will have no
effect on Kurds at all.

Imagine a TV channel with a mentality similar to that of the Pravda newspaper of the Soviet
Union of the past, declaring in Kurdish language all day, "Happy is the one who calls
himself a Turk." Kurds would not want to watch it anyway. They would rather watch the
PKK and Barzani broadcasts.
