KDP Official Nechirvan Barzani to Have Meetings
in Ankara
Oct 22, 2001
Ankara - Turkish Daily News
SAADET ORUC
Nechirvan Barzani, a top member of the Massoud Barzani-led Kurdistan
Democratic
Party (KDP) arrived in Ankara late on Sunday for meetings with the
top Turkish
diplomats on Monday.
Barzani, the nephew of the KDP leader, was in Tehran for few weeks prior
to his
arrival in Ankara.
Barzani will be received by Ugur Ziyal, undersecretary of the Foreign
Ministry and will
attend talks with the Middle East department of the Turkish Foreign
Ministry.
Barzani will be travelling to Europe after completing his one-day-long
talks in Ankara.
Recently there has been tension between the KDP and Turkish officials,
especially
with the remarks by senior Turkish officials accusing the KDP.
State Minister Abdulhaluk Cay's televised words accusing the KDP of
being brigands
trying to establish a Kurdish state, was condemned by the KDP on Friday
in a public
statement and among the Turkish Foreign Ministry.
Refusing the allegations, the KDP stated that for 50 years they have
been struggling
for the rights of the Kurds in Iraq, with means which are far from
terrorism.
