Talabani denounces The ethnic Cleansing

Gulan Dec28, 2001

In a speech delivered at the opening ceremony of a Kurdish phone company in Sulemani on Tuesday, PUK-leader, Jalal Talabani, denounced, in his words, “the ethnic cleansing” of the Kurdish people in Kirkuk and Khanqin areas and said, “Kurds have never been against dialogue with the central government in Baghdad but Kirkuk is nonnegotiable… Kirkuk is Jerusalem of the Kurds.”

Mr Talabani also said that his party considers Kurdistan a part of Iraq and Kurds of Iraq see themselves as Iraqis but this should also mean that Kurds must be accepted as partners in a future government in Baghdad.
