Talabani: We Must Assist the Underprivileged

Sulaimani Sept. 2—The Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani stressed the need to give priority, in
the municipal agenda, to the living conditions in the poverty-stricken areas, during a meeting
with the Mayor and members of the Sulaimani Municipal Council.

He discussed and reviewed the program of activities of the Council with regard to improving
public services with the aim of beautifying and cleaning the city of Sulaimani, especially the
main entrances and access roads to the city. He fully backed the Council’s campaign to plant
trees along the main highway, leading to Kirkuk, between Tasluja and Sulaimani.

Mr. Talabani proposed sending personnel abroad for job training in the field of local and city
management, administration and municipal services in order to improve their expertise. In
the campaign to improve the environment, in addition to its staff, the Council will be assisted
with the participation of PESHMERGA forces and PUK bureaus.
