Barham
Salih Meets Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister

Observer) Nov 8, 2001. During his recent official visit to Iran Dr. Barham
Salih, Prime
Minister of Kurdistan's Regional Government-Sulaymani met Dr. Mohammed
Al-Sadir, Iran's
Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, reported Anba Kurdistan, the Patriotic
Union of Kurdistan
(PUK)'s Kurdistan-based Bulletin last Wednesday.
Both officials
discussed the means for strengthening ties between the PUK and the Islamic
Republic of
Iran. The two side also reviewed the latest issues concerning Middle
East
region.
Dr. Salih expressed
gratitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran for its assistance to the Kurdish
people in their
difficult times.
The Kurdish
Prime Minister also asserted that the PUK is putting forth effort to become
a
prominent Kurdish
force in Iraq's political arena and will have an important role in
originating
the political structure in Iraq.
The Iranian
official, Dr. Al-Sadir, said that his country has good and warm relations
with the
"Kurdish brothers",
and that Iran has always been a friend of the Kurds. Dr. Al-Sadir
said,
that Iran is
working towards bringing peace and security to the region.
