BRUCE DEACON CHOSEN AS ROAD RUNNING CANADA'S MALE ROAD RUNNER OF THE YEAR FOR 2001.

 

This is the 3rd year that Deacon has been named runner of the year.  Steve Boyd and Fraser Bertram were chosen as runners-up.

DEACON WINS IN SACRAMENTO

·         Bruce Deacon became a three time winner of the California International Marathon as he won the marathon on December 2.  He finished the race in California in a time of 2:22:12.

·         Tania Jones also raced in Sacramento and finished 4th in a time of 2:43:23.  Veronique Vandersmissen was 6th in 2:44:01, while Lisa Harvey was 10th in 2:56:44

MCGRATH WINS SEATTLE

·         (01/11/27) Joan McGrath won the Seattle Marathon for the second year in a row.  She placed 1st on Sunday November 26 in a time of 2:49:25, a PB.  In the men’s race, David Ruggles placed second in a time of 2:36:23.

·         (01/11/20) Louis-Philippe Garnier placed 4th in the Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday in a time of 2:27:19 and Seanna Robinson placed 6th in a time of 2:53:29.

Angela Strange Places in Detroit

·         Angela Strange placed 2nd in the Detroit Marathon on October 21 as she ran in 2:53:45.  Grace Pereira placed 5th in 2:58:03.

Niagara Marathon

·         Danuta Bartoszek won the Niagara Marathon on October 21 in a time of 2:46:43.  She was followed by Tania Jones in 2:48:05.  One week before, Jones placed 13th in the Global Avon Championship 10K in Hungary.

·         The male winner was Jean-Paul Niyonsaba of Burundi who came in at 2:24:28
