Mary seems to have been christened twice, as 2 IGI records have been found. The first one was in the Roman Catholic Church and the second one at the local parish church. Her siblings were all christened in the Catholic Church.

Between 1833 and 1841, GEORGE BELL (2nd) remarried. Her name was Catherine Ewing. They did not have any children, but she got on very well with his. She was born in Reavly 1787, Northumberland, England. Died 1 October, 1867 in East Percy Street, North Shields.

NB: The young couple signed their names in strong clear handwriting in the ministers records and the surname was then, and always thereafter, spelt POPPELWELL. They lived at Dockwray Square, North Shields, after their marriage.
Mr William Poppelwell and Mrs Elizabeth Bell both of this parish were married in this Church by license but with the consent of those whose consent is required by law this 14th day of November 1779.

Matthew became a Ship Owner, Alderman & Mayor. Partner in Bell, Bell and Poppelwell. In 1854 he opened the Tynemouth Pier at the entrance to the River Tyne, and he also had a street named after him, Popplewell Terrace, but the local council did not spell his name correctly.

Whitby, North Yorkshire in an ancient fishing port that nestles between the North York Moors and the North Sea at the mouth of the River Esk. It was once the main whaling port for the North of England. The towns skyline is dominated by the ruins of St Hilda's Abbey.
NOTE: There are some dates on these earlier descendants that could be wrong, as I have had many relations giving me different months and years, and they do not always match what I have. Some of the information has been taken from family members and papers from Jane Foster. If you have original certificates of any relations that are wrong on this page, please advise me and I will then correct them accordingly. Thank you
