Mary, Star of the Sea Foundation is a non-profit organization, founded by a group of caring and generous people headed by Sister Ma. Stella Salao, O.P.. It was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1995 and received recognition by the Bureau of Internal revenue in the same year.
Mary, Star of the Sea Foundation is supported by donations (in cash or in kind) from generous persons, agencies and organizations. With the present economic situation of our country, there are more people wanting to avail of our services but we lack funds.
MISSION
The Mary, Star of the Sea Foundation believes that two of the powerful means of fighting poverty are education and health care
Education provides individuals and families with the knowledge, skills and values to make them independent, useful and productive citizens of the community and nation.
Health care provides the means of maintaining their physical well-being and mental health.
OBJECTIVES
To identify children, youth and families who are poor and needing education and health care;
To plan and implement programs and projects that will address the identified needs of the recipients
PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS
The foundation has been implementing the following projects and activities to achieve its avowed goals and objectives amd meet the needs of the poor wherever they may be found.
Scholarship Program
The Foundation provides educational funding of Ph 10,000.00 a year per student in high school and college. Presently, there are 70 scholars being sponsored by the Foundation.
Aid Program for Poor Schools
Schools in need of books, desks, chairs, tables, athletic equipment and other school and office supplies avail of this program. The Foundation also helps these schools in terms of building repairs, toilet provisions, water pump and other facilities. A poor school in Zamboanga City received a donation of Ph 100,000.00 for the purchase of books while a public school was given a "jetmatic " water pump.
Health Care Program
The Foundation sponsors medical and dental missions in slum areas, the Aeta communities at the base of Mt. Pinatubo. These missions provide free consultations and medicines as well as laboratory tests such as ECG and X-ray.
Indigent cancer patients are also aided in their chemotherapy needs. The Jose Reyes Medical Hospital was also a recipient of cash donation of Ph 100,000.00 for their indigent patients. St. Martin's Outreach Center and Clinic received Ph 50,000.00 for medicines.
