BAUER, PAMELA-
Merry's Christmas- Merry & Holden have had only each other since growing up in a foster home together. But this Christmas Merry has a surprise for Holden- she's getting married!
Merry is a holiday piano player at an upscale dept. store on Nicollet Mall (read: Gaviidae, Daytons) and takes a teenage friend down to the Holidazzle Parade. Bauer does a wonderful job of describing the parade, the lights, and the overall atmosphere of the event on the Mall.
Model Bride- Aidan meets Jessie when she is working as on of those cool live-mannequins in a Nicollet Mall Dept store Christmas window. She also happens to look like the woman his father was imprisoned for killing. Lots of REAL specific Minnesota holiday scenes, including the New Years fireworks over Riverplace.
Saving Christmas- The fictional town of "Christmas" (somewhere near Alexandria) is being threatened with discorporation. The job of saving the town has been graciously handed to Sara Richards, who with a Christmas blizzard and Joe's help, manages to pull it off.
BAUER, PAMELA & KAYE, JUDY-
Wife for Christmas- Charli's business, 'Almost a Wife', takes care of all the social & house maintenance responsibilities any man would like... sounds perfect to Max. But he wants more!
He lives in a Tudor home on Lake of the Isles, and works on the 30th floor of the IDS.
BONANDER, JANE-
Angel Face in Avon Books Presents: A Christmas Together- Sam & his half-Lakota son, Joey, live in Northern Minnesota, leaving New Ulm after his wife was killed in response to the "Sioux Uprising of 1862". Lost in a blizzard, the school teacher, Eve, stumbles across their cabin, and ends up teaching the town & Sam a lesson in tolerance & the meaning of Christmas.
For Auld Lang Syne- I can't find this book!
EAGLE, KATHLEEN-
The Sharing Spoon in Friends, Families, Lovers- This story is so good. It's set in the Phillips neighborhood, at the fictional "All Nations Elementary School". The school is based on the the real "Four Winds School" in the Franklin neighborhood, where Kathleen Eagle's husband, Clyde, teaches. This is a warm Thanksgiving story that highlights the feelings of belonging & sharing in an urban Native American community.
The Twelfth Moon in Silhouette Christmas Stories 1988- Set in the town of Wakpala, SD, on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation, St. Elizabeth Mission... where Kathleen Eagle & her husband, Clyde, met. Luke's back home from the military, and brings love to eastern-born Hope.
In the notes at the end of the story, Kathleen explains that The Twelfth Moon includes many of Clyde's childhood Christmas traditions. She describes a Christmas dinner at the mission, which includes: frybread, wojapi (thickened boysenberry soup), "the book" (tripe, or cow intestines & stomach), a subtle beef soup & sausages. Luke explains that the Sioux call December 'The Twelfth Moon', 'The Moon of Frost Inside the Tipi', or 'The Moon of Horns Dropping Off'.
The Wolf and the Lamb in Mistletoe Marriages- Late 1800s, Dakotas
