Hendersonville's
Rescue Mission was founded in 1981 by George Cox and his late wife Anne.
George drove a "Little Debbie" pastry truck, and while making his deliveries
along Seventh Avenue in Hendersonville, he saw many people sitting near
Hendersonville's historic Train Depot. Some were hungry; some were
homeless. George saw their need, and he began to stop and pass out cakes
and a hot cup of coffee from the back of his truck. But serving cakes and
coffee was not enough when people had nowhere to sleep except in abandoned
vehicles or buildings, under bridges, and in doorways. The Lord put it
upon the hearts of George and Anne to open a shelter for those in need.
Soon a Building became available ( directly across from where George started
ministering), and the Coxes opened the first Gospel Rescue Mission in Hendersonville,
calling it Samaritan Place. The name was later changed to Ministry Seven
Rescue Mission and has once again been changed to reflect the community
served and its function better. It is now Hendersonville Rescue Mission.
