The new building is 15,000 sq. ft which will allow Hendersonville Rescue Mission to effectively meet present, as well as future needs of the homeless, hungry and addicted of Henderson County and surrounding areas. The new building will meet all state and local codes.
The women's division currently has only eight beds, one crib, and one small bath and toilet area. Many times during the year we are at maximum capacity and are forced to turn away needy women and children. With the new building there will be 20 beds to accommodate more women and children. Many of the women are in need of alcohol and drug recovery. The added square footage will allow the Ministry to provide more effective services.
Alcohol and Drug Recovery - at this time we only have space to provide the program to men. "Alcoholics Victorious" has been a very productive program in our Mission. This 12 step alcohol and drug recovery program is designed to allow a one-year recovery period; however, due to limited space, we had to modify it to a six-month limit. In the past 18 months, we have had seven men graduate from the AV program. Completion of this program takes a great deal of commitment from our guest; he must have a full time job, open a bank account, and report for daily counseling. We currently have only four beds available for this program and we have turned men away due to lack of space. We will have 15 beds for this program in the new building.
Dining Hall And Kitchen must be updated. At present we can only seat 40 people per meal leaving little space to move between tables. Many times people eat standing up.
Chapel - our chapel is located in the reception area which offers the guests little privacy or sense of reverence. The need is for a chapel area that would provide a place for prayer and church services in which our guest can be alone with the Lord.
Classrooms and Office Space - These new areas are necessary to provide teaching and training to aid in leading our guests to the Lord and to a productive life style.
Clinic - Today we can not offer physical help and care to our clients. With the new building we plan to have clinic space and a nurse.
