Hendersonville Rescue Mission's policy
Policy Statement
The Gospel/Evangelism
Adopted by
Ministry Seven Board of Directors
( Later Hendersonville Rescue Mission)
August 11,1989

The general purpose of the Ministry is clearly stated in the By-Laws. Our purpose first and foremost, is " to minister to needy persons by way of presenting the New Testament Gospel to them and helping provide for their spiritual and physical needs".

As a matter of general, overriding policy, the Board of Directors interprets this to mean that our primary reason for existence is to lovingly present to all who enter our mission the truths as enumerated in our Statement of  Faith , the essence of which being that: " all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23; "that God so loved the world , that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" John 3:16; that Jesus Christ alone is " the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father but by Him" John 14:6; that if any man be in Christ, he "is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" II Corinthians 5:17; that "if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" I John 1:9; and that " as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name" John 1:12.

By definition, therefore, it is our task to see that these truths are presented to every visitor, for " Who shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" Romans 10:15.

It is therefore our task to present these truths in a public, corporate setting: i.e., in regular evangelistic service, in personal individual settings: personal counseling, and by whatever other efficient means might be available:  videos, tracts, films, magazines, etc.

Out of this primary objective flows the rationale for everything else we do. The food, the shelter, the clothing, the job counseling we provide. In short, everything else we do is to demonstrate the love of God, thus validating the truths of His gospel to the recipient. In this we follow the example of Christ who ministered physically to people: i.e., healed them, " so that ye might know that the Son of Man hath power on earth to forgive sins": Luke 5:24.

In summary, our primary mission is to do all that is possible to see men and women, boys and girls come to faith in Christ, to become established as part of His family, to grow in grace, and to have lives transformed, because we are " not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the power of God unto salvation". Rom. 1:16
Those present at the time of adoption were: John Hilkert, Sheryl Seigler, Joe Boerman, Les Dogger, Jim Engle, Mattie McClain, Gary Engelhardt, Lois Engelhardt. The policy was adopted by unanimous vote.
