Joshua tree climbs:
ECHO ROCK

Pope's Crack 5.9***
A classic line on
Echo Rock formation, Pope's Crack offers great climbing on a steep hand
crack with a traverse across a dyke near the finish. I wanted to
get on this climb in '99 but couldn't due to a badly sprained ankle the
day before. I snapped a few shots last year but this year managed
to jump on it on lead.

base of the crack in 1999

Echo Rock

Hear I am making my
way up the climb on the second crux section (left) and on the dyke
traverse (centre)...and Ken watching
me finish (right)
DOUBLE DIP, 5.6***?STITCHER
QUITS, 5.7**

Posing on the initial flake & then climbing
straight past a bolt! A thoroughly enjoyable slab outing...

CHERRY BOMB, 5.10c

Well, I gave it my best shot but couldn't quite
make it all the way through this climb: that next bolt was so close I
could taste it!
