About Ziggy Palffy

Zigmond (Ziggy) Palffy was born on May 4, 1972 in Skalica, Slovakia. He played for one season with Dukla Trencin and a couple of years for AC Nitra of the Czech league from 1990-93 before moving to North America. He was the property of the New York Islanders, who had drafted him in the second round, #26 overall 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He played in almost 11 full National Hockey League seasons with the New York Islanders and Los Angeles Kings. In 2005-06 he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins to be with Mario Lemieux and young superstar Sidney Crosby. Ziggy got off to a quick start but retired mid-way through the season as the Penguins struggled and he decided to get married.

Ziggy has had great statistical success playing hockey. He is considered an offensive threat. In 684 regular season games in the NHL, Palffy has scored 329 goals and added 384 assits for 713 points. In 24 playoff games, Ziggy has scored 9 times to go along with 10 assists for 19 points.

Trades

Zigmund Palffy has only been traded once while in the NHL. In 1999-June-20 Palffy was traded from New York Islanders with Marcel Cousineau (G) and Bryan Smolinski and 4th round pick in the 1999 draft (Daniel Johansson) to the Los Angeles Kings for Josh Green and Olli Jokinen and Mathieu Biron and the first pick in the 1999 draft (Taylor Pyatt).
