Winter feeding The year starts on the first of January. At that time we are feeding the cows hay or perhaps straw and grain. As we get closer to calving on the first of March the cattle are fed a mineral supplement and better guality hay. In the spring the calves are branded using an  electric branding iron. Instead of roping them and wrestling them to the ground, like they did in the old days..........we use a calf tipping table. The cattle are then turned out on the summer pasture at the section.
