More tuna over 200 pounds have been landed with the Alexander Tuna Gun over the years than with any other production gun. The Tuna Gun was designed specifically for shooting very large fish such as tuna and Bill Fish at ranges up to 30 feet. It’s often not possible to get these wary fish to come in for closer shots.

The gun is designed to shoot a 3/8” by 6 foot shaft controlled by an enclosed spear track. This close fitting track helps to maintain accuracy by limiting shaft flexing which would otherwise be a problem with the high sling tension, (up to 650 lbs), required for these long shots.

The tip or muzzle of the gun incorporates a flush mounted, hard-anodized alloy muzzle, which protects the end of the spear track from accidental damage. The muzzle also locates the power bands nearer the shaft centerline, which improves the “sight picture” and has a slight effect in reducing vertical recoil or “kick up”.

At 13 pounds, the weight of the Tuna gun is sufficient to reduce recoil to a manageable level providing excellent accuracy without the handling and drag problems associated with excessive weight and bulk. To further improve handling, the stock is tapered down toward the muzzle for low swing resistance in the water. A larger cross section toward the rear provides necessary stiffness and adds displacement for positive buoyancy. The gun is balanced with a slightly nose-heavy bias resulting in reduced muzzle recoil, further contributing to accuracy.

The butt end of the gun incorporates an extra wide sponge rubber cocking pad which makes loading more comfortable, even when not wearing a wet suit.
The under-stock line release is conveniently located on the bottom of the gun, just forward of the handle. This keeps all the shooting line away from the power bands and in front of the divers hands. The internally weighted side-stocks are used to provide the necessary gun weight and displacement, and are designed to be easily removable without affecting the gun balance. This feature has the advantage of a lighter, more nimble gun when fewer power bands are needed for closer range hunting situations; “Two guns in one”.

The Tuna gun can be ordered bare or fully rigged with a 3/8” x 72” shaft and choice of coated or un-coated 7 x 19 strand cable or 400 lb Jinkai monofilament shooting line rig with tapered rubber breakaway friction plug. The Mono can be rigged either to a slide ring or directly to the hole in the forward cocking fin. (When using cable, it must be rigged to the fin only on this gun). Other options include high performance or standard 9/16” power bands,(4 to 6 each), with “Tuna cord” wishbones, and 4” or 5” Alexander slip tips.
